Near the end of March, Paul was out installing bat boxes that have been made up by Newton Stewart Men’s Shed, (funded by Species on the Edge, timber provided by Paul Commachio). 10 boxes went up at the Suspension Bridge and a further 10 along the footpath through Newton Stewart Golf Course. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of bats and try and halt their decline. The suspension Bridge area has always been a great spot for bats, with 7 species recorded there – the recent felling of trees around the bridge has not been great with many negative comments, hopefully the bat boxes will encourage the bats to continue to use the space.
Thank you to both the Council and the Golf Course for kind permission to locate the boxes on their land.
